The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Niger State, Malam Muhammad Nami, has donated N15 million and 38 motorcycles to the families of 37 artisanal miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State, fulfilling an earlier pledge.
The donation was made through the Niger South Foundation, an NGO he established. A delegation led by his deputy governorship candidate, Alhaji Dahiru Danhazami Abdul, presented the items to the families.
Abdul conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families and urged them to stay strong, while Nami said the donation was intended to show solidarity and provide practical help during a time of hardship. The Chairman of the Niger South Foundation, Dr Muhammed Shabba, said the organisation remains committed to supporting vulnerable people and aims to ease the families' financial difficulties.
The statement did not provide further details about the circumstances of the deaths or any official findings.
